The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research has revealed in their most recent report on teen pregnancies in Ghana that around 10.6% of all high school young ladies got pregnant in 2022 as recorded by the level of youths going to antenatal consideration.
This statistic is barely lower than the 2021 figure of 11.1%. In the interim, the average rate of pregnancy among teen young ladies spanning 2018 to 2022 is 11.26%.
These pregnancies were reported to be high in minimized communities particularly in the North East Region with the most highest rate of 15% followed by the Upper East region with a rate of 14.2%.As per the Ghana Health Service data, 102,673 teenagers were reported for pregnant in 2022 alone. This number is slightly lower than three-year average of 107,373 for 2021, 2022 and 2023. total for the three years is 322,121.The data additionally shows that abortions among teens added up to 24,108 for the years 2020 (8,026), 2021 (8,465) and 2022 (7,617).
