The Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, K.T Hammond says industrialisation is the bedrock on which Ghana can rise up out of the current financial doldrums.
Appearing before Parliament's Appointment Committee on Monday, the Adansi-Asokwa MP promised to revitalise small and medium enterprise (SMEs) to make them vibrant to add to the country's economic development.
He promised to follow a white paper that generally existed at the Trade Minister which deals how to properly define and deal the technical and economic aspects of SMEs .
"There exists a white paper to deal with the technical and economic aspects of these enterprise," Mr KT Hammond said, adding "Industrialisation is the best wayto go, all countries who have made it industrialized and we should do same".
"On the off chance that we had industrialized quite a while in the past we wouldn't be in this current situation we found ourselves now, so we should industrialize," he stated.
He told the Appointment Committee that he will seek for founds to industrialize the raw materials in Ghana to make business avenues for the teeming youth in the country.
The former Deputy Energy Minister additionally expressed disappointment over the country's penchant for the importation of triple locally called "yemuadie" and other goods.
"How can it be that all that you can think is being imported into the country? These usually terrible effect our foreign exchange reserves. I believe it's about time we took serious look at this particular issue. I'm informed a committee was set up by cabinet to deal specifically with this matter."
