A Senior Lecture at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo has reviewed Ghana's Parliament a bleak three out of 10 points.
On Wednesday, February 22, the House celebrated 30 years of continuous parliamentary democracy government experienced by the country.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin sent off a drawn out festival of 30 years of Ghana's parliamentary vote based system under the Fourth Republic on the topic: "Thirty years of Parliamentary democracy government under the Fourth Republic: The excursion up to this point."
Yet, the Political Theory teacher says that the Parliament has not satisfied hope.
Talking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, he told the host, Samson Lardy Anyenini, "Over the course of the week, I gave an evaluation of Parliament and that's what I felt on the off chance that you requested that I score them, I will give them 3 more than 10 and certain people came for commenting, so I expanded it to three and a half north of 10."
He showed that his appraisal depends on the four jobs of Parliament, which he recorded as: portrayal, regulation, oversight commitment, and being in charge of the public satchel.
Tending to the job of portrayal, Prof Gyampo made sense of that it is the obligation of parliamentarians to address and fulfill the interests of constituents, public, and sectarian interests.
Notwithstanding, he brought up that apparently from 1992 till date, people from Parliament have looked to fulfill the interests of the ideological group they are associated to and, basically, failed to secure and fulfill the public and constituents' inclinations.
He said, "On the off chance that you are requesting that I rate them as far as their portrayal capability, then they have not performed so well."
"It seems the ideological groups outside Parliament or the gatherings to which they have a place use a great deal of impact, and need to control these singular parliamentarians more than the constituents ought to do, and that is why periodically, while there will be parliamentary races, MPs who have not done so well in defending the interest of their constituents will go there asking … ," Prof Gyampo focused.
The teacher surveyed the leftover jobs of Parliament and expressed that parliamentarians have performed horrifyingly in those areas too.
