The Public Lottery Authority (NLA) says 18 people have been arrested with a few others facing prosecution for engaging in false exercises in the business.
This follows the NLA's engagement with the National Communication Authority and the National Security to clip down on scammers who hoodwink clueless clients assuming some pretense of offering them winning lotto numbers by adding them to WhatsApp platforms.
Talking at the Public Account Committee meeting, the Director of the NLA, Sammy Awuku said the re-registration of SIM cards would complement effort at managing the danger.
"They don't for a moment even have a cutoff, even me as the Director, once in a while they make WhatsApp platform, add you to it, and when you leave, they add you once more and even let you know that they can give u winning numbers.
"We announced the matter to the NCA , National Security, and the National Signals Bureau and we have put forth a few colossal attempts. We have arrested in excess of 18 individuals last year and some are additionally being investigated at different yet it is an ordinary matter and that's what I trust assuming there is one organization that will profit from this Sim-Card registration, truly NLA will be one of them."
