Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has declared March 8, as the new date for the State of the Nation's Address (SONA) by President Akufo-Addo.
The adjustment of date, the Speaker of Parliament said, is on the grounds that the underlying February 28, is ominous.
"The day of the SONA, at first the Business Committee declared 28th February 2023, after that I, specifically, saw that the 28th February was not a suitable day,
"Thus, I for one reached out through the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu with H.E the President, and after a broad conversation, it was moved to eighth March. It was for a valid justification that his Excellency, the President at long last consented to the eighth March. We both needed to consent to forfeit another things," he said on the floor of Parliament.
The President, Akufo-Addo, is subsequently expected to convey the address in Parliament on March 8, 2023.
As per Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, the President will toward the start of every meeting of Parliament and before a disintegration of Parliament, convey to Parliament, a message on the State of the Nation.
The address is supposed to among others, feature government's key strategy goals and expectations for the year ahead as well as the accomplishments of the public authority and difficulties confronted.
