Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement, CDD-Ghana, Dr. Kojo Pumpuni Asante, has shown his organisation's resolve to resist any attempt by the Attorney-General to amend the Audit Service Act.
This follows the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, describing the publication of the Coronavirus audit report as untimely and unconstitutional.
He contends that the report ought to have been examined by parliament or a panel of it prior to being delivered to the overall population.
He had accordingly advised the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah to unpublish the document.
In response, civil society organisation had described the A-G's recommendation as equivalent to interference in work by the Auditor-General and further stated that his interpretation of the law is unfortunate and hostile to holding the executive accountable.
Talking on JoyNews' PM Express, the Deputy Attorney General, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah noticed that the Office of the Attorney General is convinced the Audit Service Act - which allows the Auditor-General to publish reports immediately presenting it to the Speaker - is inconsistent with the provision of the 1992 constitution and consequently a change will be in the correct course.
"We will be checking out at it and do whatever it takes. Assuming you take that provision, you might need to take a look at the wide range of other laws, take a look at the constitution provision and perceive how best it very well may be… since, supposing that you see that part, it's not saying it can't be published yet it ought to be published after parliament so there's the requirement for a amendment fact, just to ensure that it's on top of the constitutional provision," he said.
Be that as it may, responding to this, Dr. That's what pumpuni Asante noticed in the event that is the case, CDD Ghana will oppose the move with all it has.
"We will similarly oppose it with all that we can to oppose it on the grounds that the more we get into the difficulties that we have gotten into, we need to make a solid effort to reinforce accountability systems. This is definitely not a welcome intervention, and if the Attorney General demands that he likes to go as such then we'll all make a solid effort to oppose it," he said.
