Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo has defended the decision by Chris Hughton to leave out Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew on the bench for the win against Angola.
The Nottingham Forest forward needed to cheer his colleagues from the bench after he was dropped in Chris Hughton's first match in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
In his nonattendance, Thomas Partey captained the team in a not-really great experience which saw Ghana get the win in the withering coals of the game thanks to a bounce back from Antoine Semenyo.
Talking after the game, Mark Addo who serves as the chairman of the Black Stars the management committee demanded that the coach decision whatever is best in his selection and has encouraged Ghanaians to respect his decision.
"Andre Ayew was subbed against Uruguay at the World Cup in Qatar and I see nothing bad about that.
"I don't have the foggiest idea what required the decision to drop him [in the Angola game] yet I see nothing amiss with Chris Hughton's decision to avoid out Andre Ayew with regard to the Black Stars squad.
"I would rather not guess anything since that would be a damage to the specialized team and the playing body however I don't think there is anything amiss with that choice," he told Asempa FM.
The coach had before explained why he dropped the 33-year-old refering to it as an personal decision to do as such.
"This is the decision you have as a lead trainer. You know the quality that Andre has you additionally realize the quality that I like to think the squad have… so these are undeniably challenging decision for me; positively, nothing to add something extra to that. He is, has been, and is as yet a generally excellent player it was only my decision", Hughton said after the game.
Ghana will make a trip to Angola for the reverse fixture on Monday as they try to seal qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation in Ivory Coast.
