The traders at Race-course, one of the biggest markets within the Kumasi metropolitan area have expressed their worries and anger to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the government over the poor roads discouraging trading activities at the market.
In an interview they had with ww.Jemohonline.com, the queen mother of the yam sellers association, Nana Yaa Foriwaa, said, there’s nothing the KMA and the government has done to them since they evacuated them from central market and moved them to race-course. There is not even toilet place in the market.
She also lamented about the poor roads and muddy area, said place becomes muddy during raining season. This makes it difficult in accessing the road. One of their cars overturned recently, they used tricycle to convey their goods (yam).
Most of the traders angrily said, the poor roads and the muddy area has led to daily struggles, as it becomes extremely difficult for customers to come and purchase their goods.
They are complaining that business has not been as good as they were at their previous locations since the roads remained unattented to. According to them they have regretted obeying the directive from the KMA because their dependents are starving at their various homes due to lack of money to provide their needs.
