The National Identification Authority (NIA) has reported a sped up printing of over of 540,000 identification cards following the payment of GH¢100 million by government to CalBank PLC.
The Authority's financial difficulties have seen it incapable to print the cards, prevalently known as Ghana Cards, as providers locked them out because of the Power's obligation.
The majority of the people impacted are the individuals who registered as far back as July, 2022.
Yet, in a press statement on Tuesday, March 21, the Authority says "sped up" printing started on Saturday, March 18 following three days of preliminary works.
The preliminary works included arrangement of printers, print servers and laminators as well as organization of extra staff from the provincial and area workplaces to the public central command in Accra.
A sum of 541,529 cards are supposed to be printed inside a 11-day time span, finishing Wednesday, March 29.
"Toward the finish of the activity, NIA will make the cards accessible at its Provincial and Area Workplaces cross country and report to the public when the people who enlisted for the cards since July 2022 ought to go to their particular NIA workplaces for the cards to be given to them."
