The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has confirmed that the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has started dispensing student loans.
It comes following quite a while of deferrals, with the National Union of Ghana Students and the University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) coming down on the Students Loan Trust Fund to deliver funds to applicants.
In a meeting with Citi News, NUGS President, Dennis Appiah Larbi expressed that more than 5,000 students have proactively accepted their credits, with the Student Loan Trust Fund promising to dispense funds to different applicants yet to get the loan.
"At our last meeting, the CEO of the SLTF said the main dispensing was going to made on the 14th of March. Consistent with his promise, our students began accepting their payments. As I address you, more than 5000 students have been paid as the main cluster. With my most recent commitment with the SLTF, they said they are attempting to pay the subsequent group. Thus, I can confirm that a few students have accepted their loan payment."
Dennis Appiah Larbi additionally asked the government to focus on the Student Loan Trust Fund and uncap the GETFund to ensure student loan reimbursement.
"Our conviction is that the funds from GETFund to the students' loan can be worked with assuming GETFund is uncapped. So we call on government to pay attention to our appeal and uncap GETFund. Government should add a political obligation to the running of the SLTF. That is the main way we can guarantee ordinary dispensing to our students."
Both NUGS and the University Students Association of Ghana have as of late been mounting tension on the Student Loan Trust fund to deliver fund to students.
USAG for example indicated plans to turn to all lawful means including picketing and showing to squeeze home their interest for the payment of educational loans.
Dennis Appiah Larbi further spoke to past recipients of the student loan to reimburse the loan to support the Fund as government subsidizing to the organization delays.
