Former President John Dramani Mahama has told the Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum not to shut down nonperforming schools.
He says the schools should rather be upheld with teaching and learning materials to enhance their performance.
Addressing to branch executive of NDC prior on Sunday, March 19, at Adudwama in the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency Mr Mahama who is campaigning to be elected flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said "The Education Minister says nonperforming schools will be shut down, is schools aren't performing, you want to wonder why they are not doing as such. presumably they don't have teachers or even books or other teaching and learning materials.
"In the event that the education Minister can't uphold the schools to perform by giving what they need, then he should to leave for someone else to dominate. Under NDC we gave the nonperforming schools books and teaching and learning materials to enhance their performance."
Dr Osei Adutwum in announcing the move called on the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institution to improve the performances or stand the risk of having their institutions shut down.
He said projects ought to be assembled for schools with a steady zero to ten percent pass rate to guarantee that most of their students will find open doors for additional opportunities adding that shutting the schools down would help with the country the colossal financial losses being caused by the government.
Dr. Adutwum settled on the decision throughout the end of the week when he address to the members of the Conference of Assisted Senior Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in Kumasi on Saturday and Sunday.
