International philanthropist Sarah Güsten-Marr, who is of Liberian and German origin, has contributed to the "Caring 4 Girls" initiative of the Imbumba Foundation with a charity song titled "Letter to Mandela."
She works on the charity song with South African musicians Clément and PD Jokes as part of attempts to generate money and support for disadvantaged girls in South Africa, but more importantly to increase awareness for sanitary health so that disadvantaged girls can receive assistance with sanitary pads.
Richard Mabaso started the Imbumba Foundation in 2012 to empower teenage girls in underprivileged communities in South Africa by giving them free sanitary pads and assisting them in finishing school.
In order to raise money for Imbumba's "Caring 4 Girls" initiative, Sarah Güsten-Marr, a well-traveled artist who also plays music, decided to record a song called "Letter 2 Mandela" to support this year's celebration. All proceeds from the song's and video's sales will go directly to helping girls (and women) obtain more sanitary products and improve menstrual health.
Many young girls who have reached puberty are stigmatized for menstruating; many different stories have been documented where these young girls are deprived of school and even certain privileges during their menstrual periods. The issue of sanitary pads and menstrual health has been a major problem throughout the African continent. Imbumba Foundation established the "Caring 4 Girls" project in order to remove the stigma and raise awareness of how crucial it is to care for these girls during their puberty periods. The project also aims to educate (more) males on the importance of providing sanitary goods for women, especially girls.
With a focus on uniting diverse creatives from the African continent through Arts, Painting, Poetry, Spoken Word, and Music, Sarah Güsten-Marr has been able to create a global incubator for creatives across the globe. She has influenced many Spoken Word projects in Africa and outside of Africa. For more than ten years, Sarah Güsten-Marr has solely powered her own initiative called "Cultural Crossings."
Her background in humanitarian work has enabled her to support numerous philanthropic endeavors on the continent while advancing her profession as an artist and singer. She spent years living in England until recently relocating to Portugal. She frequently travels between Europe and Africa to work on and support numerous Cultural Crossings programs as well as other humanitarian initiatives, such as the "Caring 4 Girls" initiative by the Imbumba.
Clément, PD Jokes, Richard Mabaso, and Sarah worked together to officially launch "Letter 2 Mandela" on July 6, 2023, in the former South African president's home (Sanctuary Mandela), in the center of Johannesburg. Richard Mabaso is the CEO of the Imbumba Foundation. Over 20 nations came together for the formal launch of the song and video at the soiree, including Ghana, Italy, the UK, Zimbabwe, Portugal, Cape Verde, the Ivory Coast, and South Africa, to name a few.
Because of my parents' strong ties to Africa and their extensive knowledge of President Nelson Mandela, whose legacy emits such benevolence and positivity that it has affected me, the song was given the title "Letter 2 Mandela." President Mandela truly cared for his people, and with this project, "Caring 4 Girls," it seemed fitting to spotlight him at the center of the song, Sarah Güsten-Marr said. For that reason, I thought it was fair to use him as the main point for the charity song.

"The music project was a present I gave to the girls so their foundation could raise funds for them. I volunteered to work on this music project for the organization as a different approach to raise money for the girls. The best we can do is to offer support in whatever manner we can because people all over the world are coping with various problems and many are struggling. My present to them is 'Letter 2 Mandela,' said Sarah Güsten-Marr.
Different stakeholders of the effort from various nations gave different testimonies. A few of the girls who benefited from the "Caring 4 Girls" Project were there, and several of them shared their testimonials about how the support from the Imbumba Foundation has improved their quality of life, education, and employment.
Over 2 million girls have benefited from the Imbumba Foundation's "Caring 4 Girls" initiative since it began. In order to promote this effort, its founder, Richard Mabaso, connected with the Mandela Foundation.
