A modern Gospel musician, Richard Obiri was born in the United States to Ghanaian-American parents and is better known by his stage name RichieO. His early years were spent in Ghana, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
RichieO, a musician and ardent songwriter, leads praise and worship at Royal House Chapel in Maryland, USA, where he also regularly attends services and composes music for the choir for special occasions.
RichieO was exposed to the African type of music alongside Hip Hop, Reggae, and RnB despite being born and raised in the diaspora and never losing touch with his roots. He was influenced musically by artists like Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Angelique Kidjo, among many others.
RichieO made the decision to keep up the pace but in a gospel-centered manner after being inspired by the global success of Afrobeat from Ghana and Nigeria. He then recorded his debut single, "Jara," which became popular and received a ton of broadcast in Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, and the US. It also went on to become the first gospel song to be played during morning gym sessions of the most popular African reality show, Big Brother Naija.
His music videos, which prominently feature his love of fashion and Afrocentrism while spreading the gospel through songs, rapidly grab viewers' attention.
