Rapper A$AP Rocky is accused of shooting a pistol during a fight with a former childhood buddy. The case will go to trial in Los Angeles.
The ruling was made on Monday on the second day of the preliminary hearing, which was attended by A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers.
The prosecution claims that two years ago, Mr. Mayers, 35, discharged and pointed a gun at Terell Ephron, slightly injuring him.
A not guilty plea has been made by Mr. Mayers. Alongside the well-known singer Rihanna, he is the father of two children.
Grammy-nominated producer of two US number-one albums, Mr. Mayers, is charged with two crimes of assault with a firearm. He could spend up to nine years in prison if found guilty.
Mr. Ephron, who belongs to the hip-hop group A$AP Mob, has been acquainted with him since their time in New York for high school. He had filed a complaint, claiming that he had experienced emotional anguish, carelessness, and abuse and violence, among other things.
Mr. Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, says that Mr. Mayers "lured" him to a hidden location outside the W Hotel on November 6, 2021, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, to discuss a fight.
Earlier this month, a Los Angeles police officer testified that in the CCTV footage of the purported incident that was played in court, Mr. Mayers was seen displaying and firing a gun.
The assertion made by Mr. Mayers' lawyers that the individual in the video was their client was refuted.
Not whether a crime had been committed, but rather whether there was sufficient evidence to pursue the prosecution, was Judge ML Villar of the Superior Court's task. The burden of proof is much lighter in these types of preliminary hearings.
After a verbal altercation, Mr. Ephron claims in a different lawsuit that Mr. Mayers "pulled out a handgun and purposely pointed it in the direction of [Mr. Ephron] and fired multiple shots."
In his left hand, Mr. Ephron was "struck by bullet projectile/fragments," according to the court documents, and he needed medical attention. He is requesting damages of at least $25,000 (£20,000).
The judge ruled in August 2022 that Mr. Mayers must always maintain a distance of 100 yards (300 feet) from Mr. Ephron.
Prior to this, Mr. Mayers received a two-year suspended sentence for his involvement in a fight that happened in August 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Attorney Joe Tacopina, who is also defending former President Donald Trump in his New York civil fraud trial, is representing him in the Los Angeles case.
