Nigerian music icons Burna Boy and Ayra Starr had high hopes of winning big at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, but their dreams were dashed when they were not selected for any of the categories in which they were nominated.
Burna Boy received four nominations, but none of them were received by other candidates.
Coco Jones defeated Ayra Starr, who was nominated for Best New Artist.
The 2023 Soul Train Awards, hosted by Keke Palmer, debuted on BET and BET Her on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
SZA was the biggest winner of the night at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, taking home the most prizes, including The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter's Award, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.
In the categories of Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Certified Soul Award, and Best Collaboration with Summer Walker and 21 Savage for "Good Good," Usher won three trophies. In the categories of Video of the Year and Best Dancing Performance, Victoria Monét took home two prizes.
T-Pain received the Legend Award, and Janelle Monáe won the Spirit of Soul Award.
