The BBC News pidgin service has hired Ghanaian journalist Komla Adom, who was recently named the West Africa Media Excellence Awards' (WAMECA 23) human rights journalist of the year.
In a post on Monday, Komla Adom revealed his new role as senior journalist with the pidgin network of the World Service.
Komla would be in charge of "reporting on happenings in Ghana to the service's audiences" in his new skills.
In a statement, the multiple award-winning journalist said, "I know there are already high expectations of me, but it is a new journey that I begin with excitement."
The multimedia group limited (JOYNEWS/Joy FM) was Komla's previous employer. He described this as "a fresh challenge I embrace."
With its main office in Lagos, Nigeria, BBC News Pidgin caters news and other information to its 75 million+ viewers in Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
It was founded in 2017 as an addition to BBC News Yuroba, BBC News Hausa, and BBC News Igbo as one of the forty-two, or currently forty-three, language services provided by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
BBC News pidgin uses pidgin to deliver stories to its audience on its website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (now X), and other digital channels.
He worked as a reporter and presenter at JOYNEWS and JOY FM for at least four years prior to joining TV3 and 3FM as a producer and anchor in 2020.
In addition to hosting Sunday Edition, an evening program that explores the lives and behind-the-scenes tales of reporters and presenters who work nonstop to create news material during the week, he was the morning news presenter on JOYFM.
He has performed in a variety of radio and television positions since joining Media General in 2020.
Komla demonstrated his versatility by reading the news in the morning on 3FM and hosting the news at noon on TV3.
During this time, he also created numerous feature articles and documentaries, two of which placed him on the West Africa Media Excellence Awards (WAMECA) shortlist for 2022 and 2023.
The human rights journalist of the year prize at this year's WAMECA went to him for his documentary that exposed the REALITY and the GAPS in Ghana's educational system.
In the past, he has been recognized by the national communications awards for his thorough coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic and by the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) for education reporting.
After Favour Nunoo, Komla Adom is the most recent journalist from Ghana to secure a position with the BBC's pidgin service.
Prior to this year, Favour worked for the service as a senior correspondent located in Ghana for the last five years.
