Dancehall musician Samini from Ghana recently discussed the connection between the famous Azonto song from Ghana and the Amapiano music genre from South Africa.
Samini claimed in a recent interview on Property Fm that Amapiano is simply Azonto renamed and repackaged, highlighting the musical elements that were lifted from the original song.
Samini emphasized the considerable parallels between the two genres, even though she acknowledged that Amapiano originated in South Africa as a house music offshoot in the middle of the 2010s. He noted that although Amapiano originated in South Africa, modern renditions frequently combine Azonto components, resulting in a synthesis that makes distinctions difficult to make.
According to Samini, "Amapiano is something that is already South African, but if you do Azonto and you add one or two things to it, somebody will say it's Amapiano today." He emphasized the persistent distinctiveness of Ghanaian music in spite of these similarities, saying that while Amapiano would always be connected to South Africa, Ghana's musical identity is unique and unchanging.
