Shazam has more over 300 million monthly active users worldwide, according to an announcement made by Apple today. More people than ever are using the app to find their favorite music.
The music industry has depended on several signals over the years to respond to the query of what the general public is listening to. Shazam has also been one of the first and strongest signals over the last 20 years, and it's only becoming stronger.
Shazam is getting progressively better at actually responding to what the world is listening to as its user base grows more and more worldwide. African nations have some of the Shazam user bases that are expanding the fastest, and African music is among the genres that is expanding the fastest, with several African songs reaching the top of the annual global charts. Rema's "Calm Down" debuts as No. 1 on the Top 100 2023 Shazam Chart having topped the global Shazam chart more times than any other song in the previous year. "It takes courage and love to find," Rema says to Apple Music. "I hope this song brings you joy wherever you are today and that it sounds as beautiful as the day you first heard it, to everyone who took the time to find it."
Ayra Starr, who has become one of Nigeria's most-shamed singers, also closes the year in the top 10 of the Top 100 2023: Shazam.
K-Pop's global influence has been expanding on Shazam, and the app's user base has grown significantly in Korea as well. In 2023, more K-Pop songs than ever before got it to the Shazam worldwide charts. The rising group FIFTY FIFTY, for example, became the first K-Pop act outside of BTS or one of its members to chart this high, coming in at No. 3 on the Shazam global charts. The recent year has witnessed a notable surge in the popularity of Música Mexicana, as evidenced by the fact that only five music from this genre have made it into the US Shazam top 10.
Shazam, one of the most popular apps on the App Store, has persisted in its innovation and addition of numerous new features to make it simpler for users to find music wherever or whenever they choose to listen. Shazam most recently released Concerts, a new section of the app where music lovers can find local upcoming concerts. Shazam recommends events based on the user's Shazam history or nearby popular events. By narrowing down the venue, date, and artist options, fans can also find events.
