This suggestion was presented by Okyeame Kwame during a recent United Television (UTV) discussion. He claims that the artists, who are important stakeholders in GHAMRO, are the primary cause of its ongoing crippling.
He claimed that the lack of interest that artists have shown in GHAMRO's operations has diminished the organization's value based on his experience over the years. He claimed that their lack of enthusiasm prevents people from exchanging ideas and offering helpful critiques for a better GHAMRO.
He added that GHAMRO's administrative strategy is ineffectual. He said that their incapacity to implement the proper system for efficient royalty collecting and distribution was the result of their inefficiency. As a result, the majority of media companies do not log and pay the proper royalties that are required of them, according to Okyeame Kwame. He claims that this makes it difficult to clear the media of the problems that GHAMRO is currently facing.
According to him, in developed nations, royalties are paid by the media and other music consumers to support the efforts of Collective Management Organizations (CMOs). He asserts that the media bears a great deal of responsibility for educating the public about royalties, and that it will be challenging for them to preach to others about the importance of paying if they too are not paying.
In conclusion, he said that the Attorney General's Department, which is in charge of legal monitoring, has no concern for the situation of GHAMRO, which is why the necessary reforms have not been implemented to ensure smooth operations. Okyeame Kwame stated, "The Attorney General has the ability to bring the media outlets to order by making sure they all abide by the law and log, and at the same time be stringent on GHAMRO to ensure they are correctly executing their function."
"Should the CMO falter, their licence could be revoked by doing so GHAMRO will sit up," he declared. In light of this, Okyeame Kwame asked all significant players to fulfill their valuable duties in order to guarantee the efficient collection and payment of royalties to the appropriate owners. Recently, Okyeame Kwame published the timeless song "Sika," which features Kofi Kinaata, a musician who has won numerous awards.
The song is available on all streaming services and is now creating waves.
