She described how her G6PD deficiency went undiagnosed for about twenty-five years, causing her to face multiple health issues over the course of her life.
She disclosed that until she became pregnant with her son Jayden, her disease went undiagnosed.
Tima claimed that she had an infection during her pregnancy and went to her midwife for treatment, not realizing that her G6PD deficiency could make some medications dangerous.
She had frightening symptoms, like bleeding, but at first she wrote them off as typical pregnancy problems.
But she said that as her health quickly deteriorated, she and the unborn child were at risk.
Before having an emergency caesarian section to save her life and the life of her unborn child, Tima was referred to three separate hospitals.
"I had an infection in my third trimester, which was about forty weeks along. I went to see my midwife, who gave me medication in the afternoon, but that night I started bleeding." Sadly, pharmacies were on strike when I was swiftly taken to the hospital, and they continued to refer me from Korle-Bu to 37 and then to Ridge Hospital. The doctor warned us that since all government hospitals are incapable of performing a CS, which is necessary for my condition, I might not survive and neither would the baby if I am not taken to a private hospital immediately. After I was taken to Lapaz Community Hospital, Jayden was discharged in a short while.
She claimed that following the procedure, the doctor determined that the reason for her unusual bleeding was the sulfur-based medication pulling the placenta out of her body.
"Thank God, I was saved at the last minute, even though I realized I nearly caused my own death." Tima remarked, "It's just a miracle how I survived for the past 25 years of my life without realizing I had the defect and was taking sulfur-based medications and using sulfur-based stuff in my daily life."

Tima, after considering her experience, pushed for greater knowledge and understanding of G6PD insufficiency.
She advised people to learn about the condition's repercussions and to get tested for it.
Tima Kumkum founded the Tima Kumkum Foundation with the goal of educating people about G6PD deficiency and supporting those who are impacted by it, as a result of her near-death experience.
