Dr. George Prah, Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, has been temporarily relieved of his duties while the inquiry into the patient's claimed death from abandonment in a jungle is being conducted.
He is to abstain until the Ghana Health Service (GHS) committee that was formed has finished its probe into the incident.
The GHS has already been granted a maximum of 30 days by Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye to finish the inquiry and turn in a report.
On June 13, 2024, a Thursday, it was revealed that a patient admitted to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba had reportedly been released and left behind inclaimed to have been discharged from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba and left behind in a bush.
The elderly woman, who was still recuperating from leg injuries sustained in an accident at the roadside close to a bush, is reported to have been transported and dumped by an ambulance from the hospital.
The woman was seen on internet videos and photos reclining beside a wheelchair and with P.O.P. on both legs as she lay by the side of the road.
As the elderly woman showed signs of being cold, a bystander offered to assist keep her warm.
After resting by the side of the road for a few days, she supposedly passed away.
GHS emergency gathering
The medical director of the hospital reportedly verified the occurrence on Friday, June 14, 2024, during an emergency meeting with the management of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
With the exception of the GHS, the Medical Director verified the incident and clarified that the circumstances surrounding the facts and the reports in different media outlets varied from each other.
In order to allow the Ghana Health Service to take the necessary action, a committee has been established to carry out an impartial examination into the situation.
The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, a senior nurse manager, a representative from the Ministry of Health, a consultant orthopedic surgeon from Ridge Hospital, and representatives from the Social Welfare Department make up the Committee.
They are responsible for guaranteeing legitimacy and unhindered access to all pertinent data.
Awaiting the investigation's conclusion, the Medical Director has been temporarily removed from his position.
In order to ensure that everyone linked to the regrettable situation is held accountable, the Ghana Health Service notified the Minister of Health about the action that was taken and guaranteed that the proper measures will be taken at the conclusion of the investigation.
